FAQ

Can I use the same domain name?
Yes, absolutely. Your domain belongs to you. We’ll help you point it to your new website once everything is ready to go live.  The change will not affect your email.

What if I have products that are worth keeping?
If you have products beyond your FindLaw website, I am happy to review your FindLaw insights report and make recommendations based on the data.  Those reports are intentionally difficult to read.  I can decode them for you and help you understand what’s what.

Can you copy my existing content and design?
Yes. We usually start by duplicating / improving on your current site so nothing is lost. From there, we can update the layout, refresh the look, or leave it mostly as-is—totally up to you.  If you want to tell me things you like and don’t like about your website, or other example websites, that can be very helpful.

Will I lose any of my SEO or rankings?
No. We take special care to preserve your URLs, set up proper redirects, and avoid any disruptions in your search engine visibility. In many cases, your site will perform better once it’s out from under FindLaw’s bloated code.  While all SEO is volatile and subject to change, I will build the site with search engine ranking consistency as a priority.

Do I need to know anything about websites or WordPress?
Not at all. We build everything for you. Once it’s live, you’ll have full control—but if you prefer, we’re always available for updates or support.

Can I talk to someone who has already made the switch?
Yes. Many of our clients are happy to talk about their experience. Just ask—we’ll put you in touch.  https://swell-sites.com/testimonials/

What happens to my email if it’s tied to FindLaw?
If FindLaw manages your email (rare, but it happens), we’ll help you switch to a better, more independent solution like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. If your email is already separate, nothing changes.

Do you offer ongoing support after the site is live?
Yes. There are no required maintenance fees, but if you need updates, design tweaks, or SEO help, James is just an email or text away. Most updates are handled on an hourly basis with a clear estimate first.

What’s the first step?
Start with a free consultation. We’ll look at your current site, talk about what’s working (and what’s not), and give you a clear plan to move forward.

How long does it take to replace my FindLaw website?
Most websites can be replaced in 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the complexity of your current site and how quickly we can gather your info. If you’re on a deadline, we are happy to fast-track it based on availability. Either way, you won’t experience any downtime during the transition.

How much does it cost to replace my FindLaw website?
Very basic sites can go for as low as $2,500 while more complex sites with a lot of content can cost as much as $6,000. That’s a one-time fee—no contracts, no monthly payments, no surprise bills. You’ll own your website and finally have control over how it looks and functions.  The only other thing you need to pay for is your domain (about $12 a year) and hosting (about $75 a year).

Do I have to cancel FindLaw before starting the transition?
No. Wherever you are in your FindLaw subscription, James can help you transition away from it. We’ve done this over 250 times and have never had any significant downtime.  Every situation is unique, so take the first step of contacting James and getting your site and related products reviewed.
